Ahh…A photographer and their toys. :)

I thought it would be helpful to create a resource page that you can always come to for all of your wedding photography and business needs. I’ll add to it as I learn more, but you’ll notice that in the future I will reference this page quite often. I recommend bookmarking it for your reference and convenience. Enjoy!

Disclosure: Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links and I will earn a commission if you purchase through those links. These are all things that I have experience with that I am recommending because they are helpful and are companies that I trust, not because of the commissions that I may earn from you using these products or services. Please do not spend money unless you feel it’s for something you really need and will help you reach your goals.

Where should my photos live online?

Answer: Smugmug

Smugmug (don’t be fooled by the silly name) is my photo sharing website of choice.  I often get questions from people who are “window shopping” for a website to display their gorgous photos and when they see I’m using smugmug they’ll ask things like — “How does smugmug compare to such-and-such and is it worth the money?”

The answer is always…I have NO IDEA how it compares to such-and-such because once I started with smugmug I never found the need to go looking anywhere else.  And from the reviews I’ve seen online, I’m not the only one who thinks that.  So is it worth the cost?  You betcha.  Their customer service alone is worth the investment.

In fact, my investment with a smugmug account is what really pushed me to a) take great photos worth showing off on my site and b) think of myself as more than just an amateur because smugmug could provide me with all the “pro” online tools I’d need to make money with my craft.

So with that gushing over with….click the link below and start your 7 day free trial.  After which you’ll decide to sign up (of course) and you’ll save 5 bucks by using my referral link.

Win-win.

I want to Blog.  What WordPress Theme should I use?

Answer: Headway Themes

OK.  I’ll admit that I’m no wordpress expert.  I’ve dabbled in the blogosphere here and there, but I’m not an established “blogger”.  I DO know that free wordpress themes are (mostly) crap and a waste of time, but I can’t go into great details about why the premium theme that I use (Headway) is far and away better than all the other options.

That said, I was attracted to Headway for its visual editor and the fact that I could play around with it until I got it just right.  Which, when you think about it, sounds a lot like the great benifit of digital photography!

I want to have a cool domain name.  What hosting service should I use?

Answer: Namespro

Here’s yet another example of a company that I am loyal to for the sole reason that I happened to try them and they haven’t let me down.  Many hosting services don’t provide the “.ca” (Canada, eh?) domain extension, but that’s what I wanted when I set up my photo website – www.thepupil.ca

So I found namespro.ca which seemed to be the front-runner for Canadian domain hosting.  Now I stay and do all my domain registrations and hosting with them not just because they have a Canadian flavour, but because they’re customer service is top-drawer.  I mean…I’ve sent questions to them very late at night and they’ve responded within minutes.  Whatever coffee they drink over there, I want some.
